Chiocchetti Emilio

Abstract

Emilio Chiocchetti è stato un filosofo francescano e docente della prima metà del XX secolo, noto per il suo contributo alla filosofia neoscolastica e al dialogo con il pensiero contemporaneo. Nella filosofia di B. Croce, Chiocchetti trova un’impostazione di tipo razionale-sistematico e comunque attenta all’individuale storico, anche in funzione anti-modernistica, visto che egli, come Croce, accusa appunto i modernisti di non rapportare abbastanza l’individuale storico al razionale sistematico. Con tutto ciò, Chiocchetti non accetta, però, l’immanentismo monistico di Croce e sostiene invece un “realismo teistico”: «il reale come oggetto – e, fuori di noi, in quanto è distinto da noi e da noi indipendente, il reale non è che oggetto – non è ragione, sebbene è nel suo fondo, nel suo ordine, cioè nei suoi rapporti, razionalità: quindi esige un soggetto trascendente come sua causa e ragione sufficiente», ossia esige Dio.

Emilio Chiocchetti was a Franciscan philosopher and professor in the first half of the 20th century, known for his contribution to neoscholastic philosophy and for engaging in dialogue with contemporary thought. In the philosophy of B. Croce, Chiocchetti finds a rational-systematic approach that is nonetheless attentive to the historical individual, also in an anti-modernist function, since he, like Croce, accuses modernists of not sufficiently relating the historical individual to the rational systematic. However, despite all this, Chiocchetti does not accept Croce’s monistic immanentism and instead advocates for a “theistic realism”: “the real as an object – both outside of us and within us, inasmuch as it is distinct from us and independent of us, the real is nothing but an object – is not reason, but in its essence, in its order, that is, in its relations, it is rationality: therefore it requires a transcendent subject as its sufficient cause and sufficient reason,” which means it requires God.
