Abstract

The article starts from the premise of the fundamental continuity between the Magisterium of the Second Vatican Council and the Magisterium of John Paul II. In this context, the article analyzes the connection that Pope Wojtyla places between anthropological conception, ethics and politics. The result obtained is to show that Pope Wojtyla has elaborated an explicit and peremptory enhancement of democracy, however, combined with an original “theory of democracy”. In this theory, democracy is interpreted in substantive terms, in opposition to the proceduralist conceptions that characterize the contemporary philosophical- political debate.
