Abstract

Scopo. Il lavoro si propone di esaminare empiricamente l'impatto della digitalizzazione sulle funzioni aziendali chiave nelle piccole e medie imprese (PMI) in Italia, dal punto di vista imprenditoriale.

Progettazione/metodo/approccio. È stata condotta un'indagine online su 205 PMI manifatturiere italiane e i dati sono stati analizzati con cluster analysis gerarchica.

Risultati. L'analisi mostra l'esistenza di sei cluster di PMI che si differenziano per l'impatto della digitalizzazione sulle funzioni aziendali, evidenziando scarsi legami tra le funzioni aziendali. Due cluster sono caratterizzati da un elevato impatto positivo della digitalizzazione sulla produzione e da un basso impatto sul marketing, e tre cluster hanno un elevato impatto positivo principalmente su marketing e vendite e un basso impatto sulla produzione. Un cluster registra un alto livello di digitalizzazione in tutte le funzioni aziendali. Inoltre, tutti i cluster differiscono nell'influenza della digitalizzazione sulla creazione di valore per il cliente.

Implicazioni pratiche e sociali. Lo studio suggerisce che le aziende dovrebbero digitalizzare contemporaneamente tutte le funzioni aziendali per aumentare l'efficacia della rivoluzione digitale e migliorare la creazione di valore per i clienti. Per raggiungere elevati livelli di digitalizzazione in azienda, e quindi aumentare l'efficienza e la competitività, le PMI dovrebbero considerare l'importanza di investire sia nella cultura manageriale digitale che nelle connessioni guidate dalla digitalizzazione di tutte le diverse funzioni e competenze correlate.

Originalità dello studio. Concentrandosi sull'impatto della digitalizzazione su tutte le funzioni aziendali, che non è stato ancora indagato empiricamente nel suo complesso, questo studio fornisce utili spunti su come sta cambiando la gestione delle PMI nell'era digitale.
