Abstract

Giovanni Canzio’s lecture explores the relationship between the “just judgment” and the “just decision” in criminal trials, focusing on evidentiary paradigms, the presumption of innocence, and the standard of proof beyond reasonable doubt. Canzio examines the cognitive limits of judicial reasoning, the interplay between truth and doubt, the growing influence of media and penal populism, as well as the challenges of artificial intelligence and predictive justice. The author highlights the paradoxes of postmodernity and stresses the need to safeguard fundamental rights in balancing efficiency, truth, and justice.
