Abstract
The recent Declaration on Human Dignity by the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith does not fail to emphasise the link that the biblical value of dignity has with reason, which is capable of recognising this principle. This fruitful connection with the secular side of national and international legal systems helps to promote a path of dialogue, and one that is fruitful, placing man at the centre. On the state front, the wide-ranging discussion between the objective and subjective value dimension that dignity can take on, in an intense work also at a jurisprudential level, becomes the interpretative key in regulating practice, in the arduous search for a point of balance and safeguard of human rights, including new ones.
