Abstract

The constantly increasing levels of EC and non–European immigration to Italy from East European countries has modified the previous ’new social reality’ which was characterised by ancient and sporadic communities, mostly Greek-Orthodox, which had justified the creation of the Orthodox Archdiocese of Italy and Malta, and an agreement signed in accordance with “art. 8, III comma” of the Constitution. Today ecclesiastic districts have been created, such as the Romanian diocese of Italy, as well as the Russian Communities and the Serb community. Some reflections follow, regarding the Italian Pan-Orthodox Episcopal conference. Lastly, attention focuses on places of worship, in particular those of the Greek-Orthodox Archdiocese of Italy and Malta.
