Abstract
Purpose: the paper aims at understanding which major spheres of the authentic entrepreneur are impacted by AI and develop a research agenda on these.
Design/methodology/approach: based on fundamental principles of authentic entrepreneurship and AI’s impact on it, a semi-systematic literature review applying inductive thematic analysis on 55 academic works has been developed, giving space for a wide discussion and a research agenda for future studies.
Findings: four major spheres with significant implications for authentic entrepreneurs have been identified: crafting the authentic self in the AI-driven age; the social construction of authenticity in AI-mediated contexts; authentic entrepreneurial agency in human-AI co-creation; relational climate and shared intent in AI-mediated entrepreneurship.
Practical and social implications: authentic entrepreneurs need to provide an answer to the transition opened up in these domains in order to preserve their authenticity.
Originality of the study: the article enriches the scant resources found in the specific intersection under inquiry. Disclosing new domains that need investigation, it offers some interesting insights for practitioners on which aspects to take into account in AI adoption, for researchers where to direct their focus.
