Abstract
Involving incarcerated individuals in work activities is, for the legislator, an ethically unavoidable and constitutionally necessary task to ensure the rehabilitative function of the sentence, as well as an effective means of preventing a return to illegality after the execution phase. The goal is still far from being achieved, for the reasons addressed in the article, although the renewed attention of the Ministry of Justice and the National Council for the Economy and Labour, along with the operational strategy developed, could lead to important new employment opportunities.
