The call for papers proposes a special issue dedicated to the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in SMEs, highlighting opportunities, risks, and challenges. The topic stems from the growing diffusion of AI in business, while emphasizing that SMEs have specific characteristics that require approaches distinct from those used for large firms, particularly due to financial constraints, limited expertise, and cultural resistance. The document outlines the potential benefits of AI (efficiency, innovation, growth, and sustainability), but also its critical issues related to governance, technological dependency, and environmental and ethical impacts.
