Abstract
Retranslation as a multilingual phenomenon: Konstandinos Kavafis in Portugal. Case studies and reflections on the phenomenon of retranslation generally deal with a limited linguistic context, that of a single language (or linguistic variant) in which a text has been translated several times. This approach influences its definition (Gambier 1994, Gürçağlar 2020). After presenting the stages of the circulation of Konstandinos Kavafis' work in Portugal, this paper will show how the analysis of translation paratexts is a useful method for reflecting on the possibility that retranslation can be framed, as suggested by Berman (1995) and Alevato do Amaral (2019), as a multilingual phenomenon and to explore its complexity in the context of languages whose diatopic heterogeneity corresponds to a plurality of publishing markets, as is the case with Portuguese.
