Abstract
In D. 1.5.15, Tryphoninus discusses a slave's manumission conditioned on childbirth. This study analyses its possible interpretations. It highlights the role of natura as a decisive criterion, and examines historical interpretations, including Favre's nuanced reading and Leibniz's perplexing case.
