Abstract
Born and raised in the Italian territory of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Filippo Serafini is known to have succeeded in initiating a meaningful dialogue with the German Pandectist school, leading to the rebirth of legal science in post-unification Italy. The contribution dwells on this undisputed merit of the scholar and then highlights his involvement in the work of the Swiss civil codification and legislation on enforcement and insolvency, which represents a further sign that Serafini was fully aware of how scientific dialogue between minds goes beyond any nationalistic antagonism.
