Abstract
Between Andreotti and Kohl flourished a friendship based on shared values and a strong human relationship, albeit in a great difference of temperaments and ways of acting. «I love Germany so much that I prefer there to be two of them»: Andreotti’s “joke” was the expression of a general attitude of western diplomacy during the Cold War. Nonetheless Italy and Andreotti played a role in fostering Europe’s approval towards German reunification.
