Abstract
In the reunification of Germany, the alliance between the European countries and the United States was valuable: on the one hand, there was the political and military authority of the Americans, on the other hand, there was the wisdom and diplomatic experience of the old continent. The common understanding of the world’s great liberal democracies is a point of great strength within international multilateralism.
