Abstract
At the news of the fall of the Wall, there was joy in London, but also alarm over the balance of power in Europe and Gorbachev’s fate. Thatcher’s self-criticism over reunification complicated the Iron Lady’s personal relationship with Kohl. It is a consequence of how the reunification took place, today’s revanchist Russia: a more gradual approach might have favored Gorbachev’s reforms and a more open and constructive Kremlin.
