Abstract

In this note, we establish a common fixed point theorem for a quadruple of self mappings on a complete metric space satisfying weak compatibility and a generalized Φ-contraction.  Our main result improves and extends some known results.  As an application, we use our main result to obtain common solutions of certain functional equations arising in dynamic programming. We also discuss an illustrative example to validate all the conditions of the main result in dynamic programming.
