Abstract
The article addresses the evolution of the spatial-temporal dimension of work activities as a result of digitalisation processes, highlighting how technological progress is leading work procedures, times and places towards an increasing phase of remotization and dematerialisation. In the analysis, the evaluation of psychophysical and psychosocial risks associated with the deconstruction of traditionally conceived labour, which is now confronted with entirely digitised environments, is emphasised. In this sense, the health and safety implications that the displacement of work activity into virtual reality, such as that of the metaverse, could have in terms of the protection needs of meta-workers and the burdens on the employer’s side are examined.
