Abstract
The author urges a rethinking of the methods and content of Roman law, calling for its openness to political, economic and social contexts. Roman law is also an instrument of the history of Roman antiquity, to the reconstruction of which it can contribute together with other historical disciplines. In turn, the latter can contribute to a better understanding of the meaning of legal data as well.
