Abstract

A mathematical model has been developed to estimate the concentration of transdermal drug transport in an annular section of the human forearm.  The formulation of the model is based on the radial and angular diffusion equation together with appropriate boundary conditions.  An analytic method has been employed to determine the steady-state concentration of the drug in the annular region of dermal system and the unsteady-state concentration of drug release and transport has been computed using finite difference explicit method.  The proposed model may be useful for drug transport in human subjects especially for the application of drug through transdermal drug delivery system.  The model has applications in biomedical sciences especially while dealing with the patients having oral and intravenous drug issues.
